In one of India's worst aviation disasters, Air India flight AI171 met with tragedy moments after departing from Ahmedabad International Airport. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, carrying 242 souls bound for London Gatwick on June 12, 2026, plunged into a residential area near the airport, claiming all but one life.

The aircraft had barely reached cruising altitude when eyewitnesses reported hearing a deafening explosion. "It sounded like thunder directly overhead," recounted local shopkeeper Priya Patel who witnessed the catastrophe unfold. The twelve-year-old aircraft disintegrated upon impact with a medical college hostel during peak lunch hour.

Among the wreckage scattered across multiple buildings emerged an incredible story of survival. Ramesh Viswashkumar (40), seated in row11A and currently recovering at Civil Hospital, remains the sole survivor from among all passengers and crew members. His miraculous account provides chilling details about those final moments in the sky.

"Thirty seconds after take-off...the world exploded around me," Viswashkumar told reporters from his hospital bed while showing visible injuries but stable condition.

"When I regained consciousness...it was like waking into hell - smoke everywhere...bodies...plane parts scattered like toys."
